Description
The Samsung SPH-M510 is an attractive clamshell, though it seems a bit reminiscent of other clamshells on Sprint's lineup, namely the SPH-M610 and SPH-M500. The phone is relatively compact, but not wafer-thin at 0.7 inches and certainly cannot compare the M610, which measured in at about half an inch. The M510 is slightly taller and wider than the M500 but still felt pretty light in our hands. The Samsung SPH-M510 for Sprint certainly is eye-catching it also comes in basic black and it offers a respectable feature set including support for Sprint's EV-DO network, a 1.3-megapixel camera, Bluetooth, and a music player. Multimedia performance is great.

The Samsung SPH-M510 is 3.7 inches long by 2.0 inches wide by 0.64 inch thick, the 1.3-megapixel camera takes pictures in four resolutions, from 1280x160 down to 176x220. Other camera features include three quality settings, brightness and white balance controls, a night mode, a self-timer, four color effects, five frames, a 4x zoom, and four shutter sounds, plus a silent mode. The camcorder records clips with sound and a selection of editing options similar to the still cameras. Clips meant for multimedia messages are capped at 30 seconds, or you can shoot for as long as the available memory will permit. For easy photo printing, the SPH-M510 supports PictBridge technology for transferring images directly to a printer. In our tests, photo quality was quite good. Colors were sharp, object outlines were distinct and there was enough light. The M510 provides access to Sprint's multimedia content, including Sprint Music Store, offering over-the-air music downloads. The M510 supports Sprint TV with more than 50 channels of television programming, more than 20 of them with live content. The M510 also features a Sprint Theme with quick links to Sprint Music Store, text messaging and the On Demand 2.0 application, which allows users to retrieve up-to-date web content such as sports, weather, news and movie times. The M510 is available in both hot pink with black accents and black with blue accents. The M510 measures 3.74" x 2.0" x 0.64" and weighs just 2.9 ounces. It will be priced at $129.99 with a two-year service agreement. The M300 by Samsung measures 3.58" x 1.85" x 0.68" and weighs less than 2.7 ounces. It will be priced at $29.99 with a two-year agreement.

Conclusion
The Samsung SPH-M510 is the epitome of a mid-range multimedia phone, meaning it includes most of the features you'll see on a high-end phone, but hiccups a bit in their execution. Listening to music on the phone was pleasant enough, but we won't be ditching our iPods anytime soon. As for video, well, if you're really desperate for entertainment, it might tide you over, but we recommend that you just call a friend and have a good conversation to pass the time instead. It will be a much more enjoyable experience, as the M510 excels in call quality and calling features. The clamshell also has a nice-looking, curvy design, and while it might not turn heads, it will still grab your attention.
